My definition of couplet would be "a couple of lines that rhyme or have the same length".
Example:
I really gotta go, no time to rhyme.
But if ya'll wanna know, I found myself a dime...
Yeah yeah, it didn't make sense.
But at least, I kept my tense....

Significance of the Term:
It's important to learn this word because it makes the poem more interesting to read (sorry if I already wrote this in another post). When words or some lines rhyme, it's easier to find a beat to the poem.
