My definition of rhythm would be "the way you sing or speak some words or dance to make it sound right; beat."

Signifiance of the Term:
It's important to know this word because you need to know how to read a poem with a rhythm. How your voice goes high and low when it's appropriate. If you don't know how to read a poem, it'd sound weird and off.
